The Darkest Minds TRAILER Review
Firstly: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! omgomgomgomgitisfinallyhappeningmydreamiscomingtrueIcan'tbelievethisIamsososososoexcited
Secondly: Full Trailer
Okay. . .how many times have I watched this trailer now? I've lost count, but the amount is probably leaning toward 50, if not more. I am so incredibly excited for this movie and it looks so good! (Hi, bye the way<3)
So, as you can tell, I am a really big fan of The Darkest Minds book series, and now that it is being turned into a movie, I would consider myself as THE most anticipative fan out there. After watching the trailer, I'm over the moon!
One word to describe it: EPIC
I loved it, it looked so cool. Not of the cheap quality I was afraid it would be at all.
On Monday, the 'first look' pictures were released on EW's website (you can find the article here), and the first thing that struck me while taking a look at them was how. . .gaily the filter was? In my head I had pictured a much darker 'hue' to the movie. Do you know what I mean?
(Here's an example of a bad filter: Twilight movies were teal/greenish➜)
Not that the gaily filter bothered me; it was simply something I reacted to. And it made me think of happy-go-lucky tv shows, which then made me a bit worried The Darkest Minds would be cheap and light-hearted movie. Luckily, the trailer blew all those thoughts away! Geez, if anything, the trailer seemed almost too dark? This movie appears to be a lot heavier and darker than the books. While I like action/thrillers, I kind of dislike the fact that Ruby seems more like a badass revolutionary than a lost, scared teenager. Don't get me wrong: I don't wish for Ruby to sulk around, but I feel like they went a tiiiny bit over the top. I want a character arc. This is only a trailer though, so I keep in mind that they exaggerate and put in the best parts.
Another thing I noticed is that the psi kids' eyes glow in their color when using their powers. While it is different from the book, it doesn't bother me. I suppose it is easier for those who haven't read the book to keep up while watching the movie, and I'm all for making people understand and make them fall in love with this world just like me (even though it crushes me that some people can't find joy in reading).
I fangirled SO HARD I think I broke my laptop for squeezing it too tight when I saw this:
KJKNJMKKFTEQJMOKM It's just like in the book! And have you looked at those reds??? O. M. G. they look rad, freakin' amazeballs! Breathing fire, temples pounding blue-hot, eyes glowing. Hit me with your fire pls.
Also. . .this:
. . .reminded me of this:
. . .and this:
(which I guess is a good thing, since I literally wrote in my previous TDM post (this one) that I "hope the quality of the movie will be more Hunger Games-like" or something similar.)
A thing worth mentioning before wrapping this post up: THE MUUUSIC it is so epic! The violin! The song!🎜THIS IS A REVOLUUTIOOOON🎜 just epicepicepic
This post was very jumpy and all over the place, and that pretty much sums up how I feel inside after watching this trailer. There aren't words enough to describe my excitement when books I love gets transformed into movies! To see all the characters and places go to life and real, actual people moving on a screen for all eyes to see, not just in my head!
I have no clue how to end this post, so I will just do it without further ado. Bye for now! Love,
-E
(PS: I got braces today and they hurt like hell. I'm serious; while my whole family ate chinese food for dinner, guess what only thing my weak ass could handle was? cheap, store-bought RAMEN.)
