My Top 10 All-Time Favorite Book Series!

Hi there!

It’s been a while since I posted something here (okay, like five days, but still), and I am sorry, but I was busy being lazy.

Anyhow, today I thought I would share with you my all-time favorite book series! I didn't think of it as I picked them, but I have discovered that every one of them is YAs with either a hint of fantasy, paranormality, or sci-fi.

(This is all spoiler free, so it's okay if you haven't read these books yet!) Without further ado, here they are:

Numero DIEZ: (yes, I have attended the Spanish classes in school, good kid right here← )

Don’t hate me for this. . .but it has to be The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer. Stay with me! I know there are a lot of people out there hating on this series, calling it a cheesy piece of crap with bad character development and a screwed-up romance. . .and yes, I agree. I agree I agree I agree.

However, I DIDN’T when my twelve-year-old self first read them. My twelve-year-old self had never experienced a feeling akin to the one I felt when I read these books. These books lured out my inner fangirl, they made me giddy and happy and bubbly inside. I was hooked. I read them during lunch break, on the bus. . .everywhere, as soon as I got the chance. So while they do have their flaws, they still deserve a place in my top-10 list. (And do I really need to write a synopsis for this one?)

Number Nine:

I present to you; The Immortals by Alyson Noël. The first book is called Evermore. Many think this series is similar to Twilight, and once again, I agree. The case is the same here; I was young, I loved the books, they will always have a special place in my heart. There are elements that are very similar between Twilight and The Immortals, but they are still two totally different books.

In short, The Immortals is a about a girl called Ever, who’s whole family died in a car crash with her left as the sole survivor. After the accident, Ever has developed this kind of sixth sense; she can see people’s auras, hear their thoughts, and if she touches someone, their whole life-story will flash before her eyes. This has made Ever a very closed, timid girl who buries herself in hoodies in attempts to surpress her abilities. But it all changes when a new boy shows up at her school, a boy who can tune out this sixth sense, and seems immune to it. . . Give it a chance, it’s great!

Number Eight:

Legend by Marie Lu. I am actually a bit iffy about whether or not this series is fully deserving of its eight place. I absolutely love it, but the question is; do I love The Immortals more. . ? Meh, I’ll just keep it like this for now.

Legend is a dystopia with two protagonists, Day and June. They live in the Republic, former western United States. 15-year-old June is born into a wealthy elite family and she’s treated as a prodigy. 15-year-old Day is born into the slums, and he is the country’s most wanted criminal. A series of events leads to the two of them crossing paths, and let’s just say. . .shit goes down. A long time has passed since I read this series, so I don’t remember too much, but it is really exciting, action packed, and I love Day and June together!

At times, Legend made me frustrated, to say the least. Some desicions made by certain people, and especially the ending of the whole series. . .gosh, it still bugs me! I loved the characters and the world, and I love Marie Lu’s style of writing. I haven’t gotten the time to read her new book yet, Warcross! I will as soon as I get the chance.

Number Seven:

The Engelsfors Trilogy (roughly translated to Angel Falls Trilogy) by Sara Bergmark Elfgren and Mats Strandberg. The original is actually written in Swedish, but all three books have been translated into English. The first one’s named The Circle.

Quick synopsis; a bunch of highschool teenagers start to notice strange things happening to them, and one night when the moon in blood red, they find out that they are, in fact, witches. As if that is not enough, they are not just any witches, they are ”the chosen ones”, and they have a very important mission; to save the world from an otherworldly evil.

What makes this so great is that these six teenagers have absolutely nothing in common. One is being bullied, one is the bullier, one is popular, another’s an emo. . .and they all are forced to get along. Another thing I love is the mix of reality in this whole witch-mess. They still go to school, stumble upon obstacles in their everyday life that they have to overcome, they still go through heart-breaks and family-issues. It is relatable and funny and thrilling and so so good. I really recommend this series.

Number Six:

The sixth series on my list is Divergent by Veronica Ross. These books killed me. Seriously. This is my ghost typing this. A few years back, when I first read this series, I was not the biggest crybaby—at least not when it comes to books, and especially not in front of other people. But by the time I finished the last book I was bawling right there in the living room, in front of my whole family. (The look on their faces tho. . .it still cracks me up thinking about it). Things have changed though. Now I cry all the time, which. . .is both good and bad.

This series is very popular, and as I am sure many of you already know what this is about, I won’t be too prolonged. So Divergent is also a dystopia, in which the society is split up in different factions; Candor, Dauntless, Erudite, Amity and Abnegation. Our protagonist’s name is Beatrice Prior, and she is born into Abnegation (the selfless). At the age of sixteen, every person has to make a choice; they must decide which faction they want to live in and dedicate their whole life to. We get to follow Beatrice as she makes her choice (which shocks everyone) and as she goes through the initiation that follows, aaand a lot of things happen. Romance, action, secrets, cool stuff. If you already haven’t: read it!

Number Five:

It’s time for Red Queeeeen! Okay, it is not called Red Queeeeen, it’s called Red Queen and is written by Victoria Aveyard. This is another situation where I’m not sure whether or not to rank it higher or keep it on fifth place. I guess it is deserving of a fourth place. Oh well.

In the world of Red Queen, there are two kinds of people; Silvers and Reds. Silvers have silver  colored blood, and they have special powers. For example, some can control water while some can control fire, and these Silvers are treated like gods, ruling the world and living in luxury. Reds however, are like us—blood that is actually red, no superpowers, no nothing. In this society, they are slaves under the Silvers’ rule, poor and starved and oppressed. The main character is Mare Barrow, a sixteen-year-old Red, and she thinks she is just another normal Red. . .until one day, she discovers that she. Has. Powers. But she’s Red. Really exciting, I really recommend for you to pick this book up!

The fourth and final book in this series, War Storm, comes out May 15th 2018, and I AM SO EXCITED FOR IT.

Number Four:

The Selection by Kiera Cass. I love this series so much! Some say these books are cheap and ”shitty”, but I disagree. I think the romance is so cute and I would absolutely recommend this series.

It takes place in the future, in a kingdom names Illéa, and I suppose it is former United States. The society in this kingdom is divided in different castes. The Eights are the lowest caste, and they are very poor, while the highest caste, the Ones, contain people like royalty. It is possible to climb castes, though it is rare and difficult.

Illéa has a tradition; that every year, 35 randomly selected girls from the different castes are chosen to join a selection. They get to travel to the castle where the royal family lives, and they get the chance to compete for the prince’s hand and to become a princess. The narrator is America Singer, a Five, and as you may tell, she joins the selection. The only problem is that America is already in love with a boy from home, and the only reason she does this is for the sake of her family.

There were times where I got teary eyed reading this series. Kiera Cass has such a beautiful way of describing love! (Although there were also more than one moment when I wanted to jump into the book and slap some sense into America).

The series is originally a trilogy, but Kiera Cass wrote two other books continuing the story, but then from America's daughter's point of view. While I like those two extra books, I love the original three.

Number Three:

We’re here! At the top three. Boy, I love these three remaining series sososo much! So, on third place comes: Penryn & the End of Days by Susan Ee. The first book is called Angelfall.

Angelfall takes place in our world, but in a post-apocalyptic present where angels have come down from the sky and taken over the world. The book starts off six weeks after the "attack", and we get to follow Penryn, her mother and her sister as they are roaming the streets of California for food and safety. Suddenly Penryn's sister is taken by an angel and the group is split up. Penryn, the seventeen-year-old main character, is determined to get her sister back no matter what. She teams up with Raffe, a fallen angel who has lost his wings, and offers to help him if he tells her where her sister is in return, and the duo begin their journey to the angels stronghold.

This book, you guys. . .I love the characters love the plot, I LOVE Penryn and her personality! Susan Ee writes in such a great and comical way that you can't help but fall in love with everything in this series. It is thrilling, romantic, action packed. . .READ IT!!

Number Two:

This may not come as much of a surprise for those of you who have read my other blog posts. . .the second series on the list is The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken! I cannot tell you enough times: I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE MOVIE. I have watched that damn trailer all weekend long. Comes out August 3rd. Watch it. But read the books first because the books are always better! And for those of you who have watched the trailer but haven't yet read the books: this is not like X-Men at all!

The Darkest Minds takes place in a broken version of our world as well. What has happened is that a disease has spread across the United States, killing off almost every child between the age of. . .I think nine to fourteen? The remaining kids that survived the disease has developed these powers. Some can make things float in the air with the flick of a finger (Blue), others can shoot electricity (Yellow) or fire (Red) from their hands, some can control minds (Orange), and some have photographic memory and become geniuses (Green).

These kinds are considered a danger to society, and the government has locked them up in camps where they have to work and live like prisoners. Sixteen-year-old Ruby is an Orange, and after having lived in one of these camps for almost six years, she manages to escape. She joins a group of other teenage escapees, and together they look for the only safe haven they know of, East River.

It is a great series and Alexandra Bracken is a very talented writer. I am so looking forward to the continuation of the (already finished) trilogy, The Darkest Legacy! It is a stand-alone novel with Zu as the main character, taking place five years after the events in Afterlight!

PS: If you already haven't, don't skip reading the novellas! I cried SO MUCH while reading them, and they were so good! In the last one you actually get to see a bit of Ruby and the gang after the events of the final book!

NUMBER ONE<33333:

The time has come. My most favorite book series ever is about to be presented to the world. Ladies and gentlemen: The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer!

READ IT READ IT READ IT. I swear to god, this series is amazing! I have re-read it like four times and every time I fall in love with the world all over again. You have. To. Read. It. You won't regret it!

So The Lunar Chronicles is a re-telling of fairytales. I was a bit sceptical when I first heard it, but believe me, it is great! The first book is called Cinder, second Scarlet, third Cress, and fourth and final Winter. You can probably figure out by yourself which fairytales are re-telled.

In the first book we get to follow Cinder, a sixteen-year-old girl who is a cyborg, meaning that some parts of her body are made of metal and screws and wires, making her part robot. She lives with her evil stepmother and two stepsisters in New Bejing, working as the city's most renowed mechanic. One day, Prince Kai comes to her booth, asking her to fix his android, and with this interaction the adventure takes off. The books take place in the future, with cyborgs and androids and hovers and cool scientific creations. Oh, and there are people living on the moon, ruled by an evil queen.

In the second book we get to know a new character, Scarlet, but we also get to follow Cinder where we left off in the first book. Same with Cress and Winter.

There are so many epic scenes in this series, so many moments that made me crack up and cry and fangirl so hard I was about to burst. Marissa Meyer writing style is everything. She is so funny and I absolutely love the Rampion and the rest of the crew (sadly they don't get to the Rampion until the second book). What is so great about this series is that is just gets better and better! I have read many books when first one was absolutly phenomenal, and then as the story continues, my interest wanes. That's not the case with this one!

You haveee to read The Lunar Chronicles! It is a must-read.
